Theme of the Sculpture
The legend of a ship that never anchors takes on a new form here. In bronze, the story of an eternal journey comes to life, where man and vessel merge into a single shape, carried by time and imagination.
A delicately modeled face blends with the structure of the ship, creating a tension between reality and dream. Every detail feels like a suspended moment on an endless surface, where there is no beginning or end, only quiet flow.
This sculpture is not about wandering, but about the desire to continue. About the courage to move forward, even when the path is not entirely clear.
The Flying Dutchman becomes a symbol of freedom, inner strength, and endless inspiration.
About the Creation
This sculpture represents the most technologically demanding bronze work ever presented in the SOCHÁRIUM gallery.
While the sail and the sea surface were created using traditional casting, the ship itself is the result of exceptionally precise and gradual work. It was modeled in wax in individual segments and then assembled into its final form with utmost sensitivity to both detail and structure.
Such a complex work can only be created by an artist who fully masters not only sculptural modeling but also bronze casting technology. While most contemporary sculptors entrust casting to specialized foundries, Daniel Janec carries out the entire process himself—from the initial model through casting to the final patination.
This unique fusion of artistic vision and technological mastery is what makes this sculpture truly exceptional.
It was created over the course of one and a half years of dedicated work and rightfully bears the title Sculpture of the Year 2026.
