Description

Bludný Holanďan
SCULPTURE OF THE YEAR 2026
academic sculptor Daniel Janec MgA.

The sale of the artwork is planned no earlier than 2027. Until then, the sculpture is on display at the SOCHÁRIUM gallery, allowing as many collectors and admirers of the artist's work as possible to encounter it. The sale of this sculpture is conducted individually and is subject to specific conditions. In the case of serious interest, we will be pleased to personally introduce you to the details.

Theme of the sculpture
The legend of a ship that never docks takes on a new form here. In bronze, a story of an eternal journey comes to life, where human and vessel merge into a single form, carried by time and imagination. The delicately modeled face blends with the structure of the ship, creating tension between reality and dream. Every detail feels like a frozen moment on an endless surface, where there is no beginning or end, only a quiet flow. This sculpture is not about wandering, but about the desire to continue. About the courage to move forward, even when the path is not entirely clear.

The Flying Dutchman becomes a symbol of freedom, inner strength, and endless inspiration.

About the creation of the sculpture
This sculpture represents the most technologically demanding bronze work ever presented by the SOCHÁRIUM gallery. While the sail and the sea surface were created using traditional casting, the ship itself is the result of exceptionally precise and gradual work. It was modeled in wax in individual segments and subsequently assembled into its final form with maximum sensitivity to both detail and structure.
Such a complex work can only be created in the hands of an artist who fully masters not only sculptural modeling but also the technology of bronze casting. While most contemporary sculptors entrust casting to specialized foundries, Daniel Janec carries out the entire process himself, from the initial model through casting to the final patination.

It is precisely this exceptional connection between artistic vision and technological mastery that makes this sculpture an extraordinary work. It was created gradually over one and a half years of focused work and rightfully bears the title Sculpture of the Year 2026.

Large bronze sculpture – height 135 cm, length 165 cm, sea width 87 cm.
