The abstract sandstone sculpture "Kulajda" (Czech mushroom soup) from 2023 presents the artist in a mode in which he masterfully develops the motif of the fragment, also known from his realizations that have enriched the city of Plzeň. Here, he works with the motif of human lips, which become a symbol of the perception of taste and a key to interpreting the work as a whole.
The artist approaches the theme of Kulajda not descriptively, but symbolically. Rather than depicting the soup itself, he focuses on its essence, taste. He does not present it as an abstract concept, but through mouths, through which taste enters human experience. Fragments of lips placed across the rounded head thus function not merely as a playful motif, but as carriers of sensory perception.
Instead of illustrating food, the sculpture becomes a metaphor for human perception, in which the artist does not depict Kulajda itself, but the principle through which perception transforms into lived experience.
At first glance, the sculpture deceives with its apparent lightness. In reality, it is a sandstone work measuring 135 cm in height and 70 cm in width, whose considerable weight requires handling by crane.
